Check the Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR)

CADR is a measurement that reflects the effectiveness of an air purifier and is perhaps the most important metric you need when comparing air purifiers. A good CADR rating is at least two-thirds of the area of the room you wish to use it in. So if a room has an area of 150 square feet, the air purifier should have a CADR of at least 100.

Check the Air Changes Per Hour (ACH)

ACH tells you the number of times an air purifier can completely filter the air in a room each hour. For instance, 6 ACH means the entire volume of air in a room is replaced with clean air five times in one hour. According to HVAC repair and maintenance specialists, a rating of 4 ACH is considered the baseline of a good air purification system.

Check the Noise Levels

Many manufacturers base the CADR rating and airflow rating of air purification systems solely on high settings. However, air purifiers generally run on low or medium settings to keep the noise levels under control. As an example, schools tend to prefer a maximum decibel level of approximately 50dB in order to hear a class over the operating noise of the equipment. So when researching air purifiers, make sure you consider the noise levels at all speeds.
