Causes of High Humidity Even When the AC Is Running

It’s normal that as a functioning air conditioning system cools, dehumidification occurs. However, people should understand that when it’s no longer working effectively, high levels of humidity are all but inevitable. This issue will cause inadequate cooling and hot spots. To enlighten you more about this matter, Acker Heating & Cooling runs down the common causes of this issue and how you can address it here.

  • There are a variety of daily activities that can increase the humidity level in your household: using the bathroom, for example, especially to take hot baths and showers. Cooking is also a big contributor due to the evaporated water given off when using the kitchen stove and oven. This is the primary reason why ventilation fans in the kitchen and bathrooms are advised.
  • Like most appliances, if your AC and heating systems aren’t being cleaned properly and regularly, they can easily accumulate dust and dirt. Despite the existence of an air filter, your unit’s components will still get dirty over time. Checking other features of your unit is also a must, especially the condenser coils, as these are subject to different weather elements and can easily get dirty.

Addressing the Problem

Dirt can disrupt the refrigerant cycle, which will affect your system’s dehumidification ability. You may consider having a whole-home dehumidifier integrated with your air conditioning system. Dehumidifiers that are designed to accommodate your whole home use a similar action to air conditioners. They remove moisture from the air using a refrigerant-cooled coil, then collect and drain it.
