The city of Colbert is located in Madison County, Georgia, approximately twelve miles northeast of Athens and eighty miles northeast of metropolitan Atlanta. Founded in 1899, Colbert is presently home to a population of approximately 600 residents who enjoy the excellent schools, positive economy, and beautiful changing seasons common to the region that grace the city with long hot summers, cool moderate winters, and lovely mild weather during spring and fall! Colbert is known throughout the state for its popular Independence Day Parade &Celebration, which draws crowds of more than 10,000 annually with a barbecue, parade, arts and crafts, children’s games and activities, and guest celebrities that have included the likes of Hee Haw’s Archie Campbell and comedian Jerry Clower. The city is home to a number of historic sites, as well, including several homes and buildings located within the Colbert Historic District, and the historic Colbert Schoolhouse, located at the junction of Fourth Street and First Avenue.
